How this is made

There is no cat photographer at the other end.

A cat photoshoot normally means a carrier, a car, a strange room and an hour of your cat under the nearest chair. This is the other way round: the photo comes from your sofa and the studio is simulated. That is a trade you should make with your eyes open, so here it is in plain language.

Said plainly: the portrait is generated by artificial intelligence. It is built from the photograph you upload, and it is not a photograph taken in a studio. There is no photographer, no painter and no studio to visit — that is the whole point of it. We declare it here, on the result screen and inside the metadata of the file we print, under article 50 of the European AI Act.

Seven ways to light a face

The light changes the character, not the cat.

These are not filters. They are seven studio setups: octabox at forty-five degrees, fill reflector, rim light lifting the outline off the background. The examples below are of a dog, on purpose — they are there to show what each light does, not to show your animal.

Warm

Charcoal background, kind light. The safe default.

Clean

Light background, everything visible. Best for very dark coats.

Rembrandt

Half the face in shadow. The most serious of the four.

Window

Cool side light, as if the afternoon sun had caught her at home.

Backlit

The light behind: every hair drawn against it.

Low key

Almost all black, only the eyes. The most dramatic.

What people usually ask

Do I have to take my cat anywhere?

No. There is no studio to visit and no appointment to book. You upload a photo that is already on your phone and the portrait is generated from it. Nothing is charged until you have seen the finished result.

Is this a real photograph of my cat?

No. The portrait is generated by artificial intelligence from the photo you upload. It is not a photograph taken in a studio, and there is no photographer behind it. We declare that here, on the result screen and inside the metadata of the file we print, under article 50 of the European AI Act.

Which photo of her works best?

Head-on or three-quarter view, eyes open, nothing across the muzzle. Window light beats a ceiling bulb. She does not need to sit still and the photo does not need to be good: the light is the part we change.

What if it does not look like her?

You see the portrait finished before you pay. You can switch the lighting and generate it again as many times as you like. If none of them convince you, you order nothing and you have paid nothing.

Does it handle a torn ear or two different eye colors?

Not always. Small asymmetries are the thing it is most likely to tidy up without being asked. Check that in the free preview before you order anything: that is what the preview is for.
